Reducing Screentime
Smartphones, computers, and tablets are an unavoidable part of everyday life for many people. While these devices are often necessary, using them too often can increase stress levels. A number of studies have linked excessive smart phone use and “iPhone addiction” with increased levels of stress and mental health disorders, too much screen time also has links to obesity. Here are some ways to reduce screen time:
- Keep track of your screen time (keep track of your screen time).
- Avoid video fatigue. (Try to limit video calls, maybe easier said than done)
- Leverage technology (set timers on your devices).
- Take regular breaks and stretch (every 30 minutes or so to relieve stress & tension).
- Stand up, sit less (consider having areas to stand up for part of the working day.).
- Pay attention to your posture (to help reduce neck and back pain).
- Don’t eat in front of a screen (cut down on unhealthy snacks around your desk or ban them completely).
- Keep screens out of the bedroom. (Screen time before bedtime can affect your quality of sleep).
Reducing screen time can be difficult in a modern world, but in doing so will help reduce stress, improve sleep and your quality of life.
